CHANGE SPEED LEVER ( After R 3060 ) —
TO REMOVE
( See Figure 31 )
SECTION – Remove clutch inspection cover.
489 – Remove nuts from the studs holding the top cover of the gearbox to the
bottom casting.
The top cover complete with change speed lever and selectors can then be
removed. Remove the three plugs in the top cover holding the selector springs
and balls in position. Invert the cover and the selector springs and balls will fall
out. Slacken set screw in each striking fork and tap out selector rods.
– Remove the two set screws holding the reverse stop spring strap to the
cover.
– Remove the split pin in either end of the striking fork locking member
bar.
( The split pins are outside the cover. ) Tap out bar and remove spring and
locking member. Remove three set screws and take out internal gate.
– Remove split pin, washer and bias spring from lower part of change speed
lever, inside cover. Remove ball cover, and change speed lever complete
with ball can be removed from cover.
INSPECTION ( After R 3060 )
SECTION – Examine selectors and change speed lever ball for wear.
490 If excessive wear is evident on any part, it should be replaced.
– Clean faces of cover and gearbox and examine.
TO RE-ASSEMBLE AND REPLACE ( After R 3060 )
SECTION Reverse operations detailed in ( Section 489 ). Use suitable liquid jointing
491 compound between the faces of the cover and gearbox.
SELECTORS ( Before R 3061 ) — TO REMOVE
( See Figure 30 )
SECTION – Remove gearbox top cover.
492 – Remove gearbox ( Section 480 ).
– Remove transmission brake drum ( Section 204 ).
– Remove the grub screw from the top of each selector, which holds the
selector spring and ball in position. Take out each spring, but the balls will
be left in position and care must be taken when removing the selector
rods so that these balls do not fall into the box.
– Remove the two set screws ‘B’ holding the selector locking plate to the
outside of the gearbox casing and the plate with selector rods can be
withdrawn. To remove the selector rods from the locking plate, remove
locking nut ‘C’ from each rod, which can then be screwed out of the plate.
