INSPECTION
SECTION – Press out ball race from cage and remove oil retaining washer from shaft.
496 – Thoroughly clean ball race, shaft, and gear wheels.
– Examine fit of gear wheels on shaft. If new wheels are to be fitted the
layshaft gear wheels should also be replaced, as quiet gears will not result
if only the sliding wheel of each pair of gears is replaced.
– Examine shaft spigot for wear and if excessive wear is evident, the shaft
must be replaced, together with Hyatt roller bearing.
– Examine ball race for smooth running and radial play. If rough running
or radially slack, it should be replaced.
