INSPECTION
SECTION – Thoroughly clean all components of drive.
509
– Examine teeth on all wheels for wear and fit of small idler wheel on
spindle. 509 Replace worn parts.
The ratio of the speedometer drive should correspond with that of the
rear axle, i.e., with rear axle of 473 to 1 reduction ratio the speedometer
drive must have the same ratio. This is stamped on the outside face of the
speedometer drive bracket.

GROUP XI
IGNITION
SECTION Description — The latest type of coil ignition is fitted.
525 Sufficient is generally known about the principles of operation of a coil
ignition system to render an elementary explanation of the principles
involved superfluous. The object of this explanation therefore, is to
bring out the particular points of interest to the owner that will enable
him thoroughly to understand the function of each part of the ignition
equipment. This will allow him to obtain the best possible results from it.
The essential thing about a 6-cylinder ignition equipment is to supply six
sparks every two revolutions of the engine and so fire the charge in each
cylinder at the correct moment.
This is done in an extremely simple manner by means of an ignition coil and
distributor.
The function of the coil is to convert the comparatively low voltage of
the battery, namely 12, to something in the order of 7,000 volts which is
required to break down the resistance at the gap of the plug points and so
form a spark which ignites the gas in the cylinder head.
