VAUXHALL 20-60 SHOP MANUAL
CLUTCH ( After R 3060 ) — TO REMOVE
SECTION To remove the clutch on cars bearing chassis number after R 3060, it is not
304 necessary to remove the hand brake cross shaft, otherwise the operations
are the same as given in ( Section 303 ).
INSPECTION ( Before R2518 )
SECTION The clutch driven plate on cars bearing chassis number prior to R 2518
305 is flat and the facing discs are of bonded asbestos. If the facing discs are
badly worn, they should be renewed, but if the driven plate assembly is
cracked or damaged in any way, it will be necessary to fit the latest type
plate ( Section 310 ).
INSPECTION ( After R 2517 )
SECTION A new type of clutch driven plate was introduced on chassis number R2518.
306 This plate is crimped, i.e., the periphery is provided with twelve slots equally
spaced, and consecutive segments are set -050’ in opposite directions. This
plate gives a smoother clutch operation. The facing discs are of moulded
asbestos. Examine pressure plate, operating levers and thrust spring.
THRUST SPRING — TO REMOVE
SECTION – Remove clutch cover ( Section 303 ).
307
– Press in the clutch release sleeve and remove the pin from each
operating lever, which can then be removed. Gradually release the
pressure from the release sleeve. This can then be withdrawn from
the hub in the clutch cover and the thrust spring removed.
TO REPLACE
SECTION Reverse operations given in ( Section 307 ). The release sleeve must be a
308 free sliding fit in the hub of the clutch cover and the pressure levers must
work freely on the pins.
CLUTCH ( After R 2517 ) — TO REPLACE
SECTION – Replace driven plate in flywheel, seeing that the flanged side of the hub
309 is toward the outside.
– Replace the dowel pins in the flywheel. The pressure plate must slide
freely on the dowel pins. Do not file the slots in the plate if it sticks;
see that the pins are turned so that the flat sides are parallel with the
slots in the plate. Replace the clutch cover and before tightening the
clamping bolts, line up the pilot bearing and driven plate. Adjust clutch
( Section 301 ) .
To reassemble gearbox, propeller shaft and rear axle, reverse the operations
given in ( Section 303 ).
