VAUXHALL 20-60 SHOP MANUAL

                         TO CLEAN

SECTION Should the radiator become furred or obstructed after long usage, causing
333 the water to boil, the following procedure may be adopted:-

                         – Warm up engine.
                         – Drain radiator and cylinder block of all water.

                         – Fill up radiator and cylinder block with paraffin. If this is done in the
evening, the paraffin may be left in all night. The following morning, drain
the radiator and cylinder block of all paraffin and fill up with a solution
made by dissolving soda ash and water glass in water. The strength of
this solution should be 1 lb. of soda ash and 1 oz. of water glass to each 5
gallons of water used. Run the car with this solution in position for several
days, then drain out the solution and flush through with clean water. It
is important that this flushing through be carried out very thoroughly.
Afterwards, fill the radiator and cylinder block with clean rain water.

                         FAN ( Before R 2336 ) — TO REMOVE

SECTION To remove the cooling fan on cars bearing chassis number prior to R 2336,
334 it is necessary to remove the radiator, as the fan is fitted to the pulley by

four studs and castellated nuts, which are not readily accessible with the
                         radiator in position.

                         FAN ( After R 2335 ) — TO REMOVE

SECTION The cooling fan on cars bearing chassis number R 2336 and onwards can
335 be removed with the radiator in position, as the studs and castellated nuts
have been replaced by set screws.

                         WATER PUMP ( Before R 3627 ) — TO REMOVE

         SECTION – Remove radiator and fan ( Section 334 ) .
336 – Remove the four nuts and spring washers from the studs holding the

water pump body to the casing. Turn the engine over by hand and guide
the fan belt off the pulley fitted to the water pump impeller spindle. The
pump can then be removed. Under no circumstances must the fan belt
be guided over the large pulley fitted to the end of the camshaft, as the
flanges of this pulley are large and easily distorted.

                         WATER PUMP ( After R 3626 ) — TO REMOVE

SECTION On cars bearing chassis number R 3627 and onwards, the water pump body
337 is bolted to the cylinder head by four / 16 ” bolts.
                                                              5
Remove fan, water pipe connection to pump, and the four bolts holding
the pump body to the cylinder head. The pump body can then be lowered
sufficiently to permit the fan belt to be removed, after which the body
                         itself is free for removal.
