VAUXHALL 20-60 SHOP MANUAL
INSPECTION
SECTION – Examine brake shoe liners; if these are worn down to the rivets, they
271 should be renewed, or on the other hand, if there is any evidence of oil
or grease on the liners, it should be burnt off.
The ends of the register spring, which operates in the rear shoe guide,
should be perfectly square with the side of the spring, and if the spring is at
all bent, it must be replaced.
TO RELINE
SECTION – Remove brake shoes, ( Section 270 ). Strip off the old liners-and fit new
272 ones, taking care to keep the whole liner in contact with the shoe while
riveting. Each liner is held to its shoe by two countersunk headed set screws
and four rivets. The set screws are located in the top end of the liner.
TO REPLACE
( See Figure 12 )
SECTION Reverse operations given for removal ( Section 270 ). The initial tension
273 on the pull off spring must be set by screwing in the set screws ‘A’ until a
tension of 411 lbs, is registered on a spring balance applied at the point ‘B’.
