CLUTCH ( Before R 2518 ) — TO REPLACE
SECTION In the event of it being necessary to fit a new clutch driven plate to any car
310 bearing chassis number prior to R2518, distance washers must be fitted to
the clutch cover clamping bolts and between the face of the cover and that
of the flywheel. This is essential, as the latest type of driven plate is thicker
than the original.
Adjust the clutch as detailed in ( Section 301 ).
To reassemble gearbox, propeller shaft and rear axle, reverse operations
given in ( Section 303 ).
CLUTCH THROW-OUT BEARING —
TO REMOVE
( See Figure 13 )
SECTION – Remove gearbox ( Section 480 ) .
311 – Slacken the clamping bolt and the compressed graphite bearing can be
removed by tapping it out from the back of the retaining ring ‘H’.
TO REPLACE
SECTION Reverse operations as detailed in ( Section 311 ). Do not over-tighten the
312 clamping bolt or the bearing may be cracked.
Finally, readjust clutch pedal ( Section 302 ).
CLUTCH THROW-OUT FORK —
TO REMOVE
( See Figure 13 )
SECTION – Remove gearbox ( Section 480 ) .

– Slacken the clamping bolts ‘P’ and remove the clutch pedal shaft with
pedal attached. Insert a drift through the pedal shaft bearing and tap
out the shaft supporting the other end of the throw-out fork, which will
then be free for removal.
INSPECTION
SECTION – Examine shaft bearings; if excessive wear is evident, these should be
314 replaced, and the new bearings line reamed to size.
TO REPLACE
SECTION Reverse operations given in ( Section 313 ). Finally, adjust clutch
315 pedal ( Section 302 ).
