withdraw the conical spring, cork washer and retaining plates. Remove
the Marles roller bearing ‘O’. If it is desired to remove the outer race
of this bearing, it will be necessary to utilise an internal expanding
drag. Remove the oil retaining washer ‘P’ which is housed in two steel
cup washers and fitted behind the roller bearing. Remove brake shoes
( Section 270 ) .
– Remove the bolts holding the fulcrum bracket to the spring saddle and
the shoe guide brackets to the top of the saddle. These can then be taken
away.
– Remove the dust cover attached to the dust shield and fitted over the
operating arm. Remove the set screw situated at either side of the spring
saddle which holds the sections of the dust shield together, and the
whole of the shield can be removed.
INSPECTION
SECTION Examine axle casing, which should be undamaged and free from cracks.
117 Examine spring saddle rivets for tightness and inspect all welding.
