HANDBRAKE LEVER AND CROSS SHAFT
( Before R 3061 ) — TO REMOVE
SECTION – Remove the pin from the top of the rod ( ‘D’, Fig. 7 ). Remove the
207 castellated nuts and dished washers holding the shaft bearings in the
brackets on the cross member. Slacken the clamping bolts ( ‘F’, Fig. 7 ) to
allow the brackets to be turned into a convenient position for removing
the cross shaft complete with its bearings.
HANDBRAKE LEVER
( Before R 3061 ) — TO REMOVE FROM CROSS SHAFT
SECTION – Remove hand brake cross shaft complete ( Section 207 ) . Remove the
208 bearing and its housing from the lever end of the shaft. Slip off the distance
piece fitted on the shaft and between the bearing and the handbrake ratchet
box. Slacken the clamping bolt in the bottom of the handbrake lever, which
can then be removed from the shaft complete with ratchet box. The brake
lever and ratchet box will then be separated.
HANDBRAKE PAWL AND ROD
( Before R 3061 ) — TO REMOVE
SECTION – Remove handbrake lever ( Section 208 ) .
209 – Unscrew the knurled knob at the top of the handbrake lever. This
unscrews the rod from the pawl and both can then be removed from
the lever.
HANDBRAKE RATCHET
( Before R 3061 ) — TO REMOVE
SECTION – Remove handbrake lever ( Section 208 ) .
210 – Remove all the rivets round the ratchet box, which can then be dismantled
and the ratchet removed with the distance pieces.
INSPECTION
SECTION – Examine pawl and ratchet; if excessive wear is evident, they should be
211 renewed.
TO RE-ASSEMBLE AND REPLACE ( Before R 3061 )
SECTION Reverse operations given for dismantling ( Sections 207 to 210 ) inclusive. The
212 cross shaft brackets should be set so that there is a / 8 ” clearance between the
3
lower corner of the ratchet box and the edge of the transmission brake drum.
The handbrake pawl is adjusted into mesh with the ratchet by means of the
knurled knob at the top of the brake lever; turning the knob anti-clockwise
engages the pawl more deeply with the ratchet.
