be sufficiently high to take care of the ignition, and if no lights are switched
on the ammeter should show neither charge nor discharge.
From this point, increased speed should be accompanied by an increased charging
rate until the maximum is reached at a speed of 25 to 30 m.p.h. The maximum
charging rate should be from 8 to 10 amps, when the dynamo is warm.
Failure of the dynamo to generate in accordance with the above may be due
to the following:—
( a ) Incorrect adjustment of third brush.
( b ) Cut out inoperative.
( c ) Gummed or dirty commutator.
( d ) Incorrect bedding of brushes.
DYNAMO OUTPUT — TO ADJUST

SECTION The dynamos are despatched from the works with the third brush set to
359 give the output required to keep the battery in a fully charged condition.
However, provision is made for altering this position should the car be run
under abnormal conditions, e.g., if it is run regularly for long periods at night
with very little day time running, causing the battery to be continually in a
low state of charge ( see Specific Gravity test, ( Section 351 ).
