                                        LUBRICATION ( Before R 3272 )


                       SECTION         A large size oil plug is provided at the top of the steering box casting, and it
                          632          is essential that the box is kept full of heavy grade gear oil.


                                       A Tecalemit grease nipple ( ‘L’, Fig. 42 ) is fitted to the oil plug on some
                                       of these steering boxes, and to fill with oil, remove the small set screw
                                       ( ‘B’, Fig. 42 ) at the bottom of the outer column and force oil into the box
                                       through the nipple by means of the grease gun provided in the car kit until
                                       the oil exudes from the set screw hole.

                                       STEERING BOX ( After R3271 )

                       SECTION         On cars bearing chassis number R 3272 and onwards the aluminium steering
                          633          box casting has been replaced by one of malleable iron with external
                                       adjustment for taking up end play in the cam.


                                       TO ADJUST ( After R3271 )
                                       ( See Figure 44 )

                       SECTION         To take up end float in the cam and so mitigate road shocks transmitted to
                         634           the steering wheel, slacken the two bolts in the bottom half of the column
                                       support bracket on the instrument board.

                                       Slacken off the clamping bolt ‘B’ in the steering box casting. Then, by means
                                       of a large spanner applied to the hexagon ‘C’ screw down the adjusting
                                       sleeve ‘A’ complete with outer column until the cam is nipped firmly but
