CHASSIS SPECIFICATION

Early 75 mm bore engine
AXLE, FRONT A nickel steel drop forging of I section centre beam and round section end
beams, specially designed to resist front wheel braking stresses.
AXLE, REAR Semi-floating construction carried in a one piece banjo type housing of
pressed steel on the ends of which the spring saddles are pressed and riveted in position.
Spiral bevel drive; crown wheel and pinion of case hardened nickel steel. Ratio for open and
coupe cars 4-5 to 1. For closed cars 473 to 1. Ball and roller bearings throughout.

BRAKE, HAND Operates on transmission. Right hand brake ever.
BRAKES, FOUR WHEEL Vauxhall designed mechanically operated type. Each brake is
operated by a separate cable coupled to a central brake compensating mechanism.
CAMSHAFT A case hardened steel stamping, integrally. Ground finish. Shaft runs in
three bearings of the following dimensions:–

CRANKSHAFT Nine bearings, 40 ton carbon high tensile steel drop forging. Drilled
throughout to establish oil communication between main and big end bearings. Main
bearings are of gun metal lined with white metal.

CARBURETTOR Claudel Hobson, butterfly throttle type, with power jet operated by a
cam fitted on the end of the throttle spindle. Vertical air cleaner fitted to carburettor intake
pipe.
CLUTCH Enclosed dry single friction plate type, without clutch stop.
COOLING SYSTEM Impeller circulation and fan, driven by endless belt from pulley on
end of camshaft. Capacity 3 gallons ( 14 litres approx. ).
