CHASSIS SPECIFICATION

( BEFORE CHASSIS NO. R3061 )

Early 73 mm bore engine

AXLE, FRONT A nickel steel drop forging of I section centre beam and round section
end beams, specially designed to resist front wheel braking stresses.

AXLE, REAR Semi-floating construction, carried in a one-piece banjo type housing of
pressed steel on the ends of which the spring saddles are pressed and riveted in position.
Spiral bevel drive, crown wheel and pinion of case-hardened nickel steel. Ratio for open and
coupe cars, 4-5 to 1. For closed cars, 4-73 to 1.
Ball and roller bearings throughout.
Road Speeds in M.P.H. at 1,000 R.P.M.

BRAKE, HAND Operates on transmission. Central brake ever.
BRAKES, FOUR WHEEL Vauxhall designed mechanically operated type. Each brake
is operated by a separate cable coupled to a central brake compensating mechanism.
CAMSHAFT A case hardened steel stamping, integrally. Ground finish. Shaft runs in
three bearings of the following dimensions:–

CRANKSHAFT Nine bearings, 40 ton carbon high tensile steel drop forging. Drilled
throughout to establish oil communication between main and big end bearings. Main
bearings are of gun metal lined with white metal.

CARBURETTOR Claudel Hobson, butterfly throttle type, with power jet operated
by a cam fitted on the end of throttle spindle. Horizontal air cleaner fitted to carburettor
intake pipe.
CLUTCH Enclosed dry single friction plate type, without clutch stop.
COOLING SYSTEM Impeller circulation and fan, driven by endless belt from pulley
on end of camshaft. Capacity 3 gallons ( 14 litres approx. ). Two draining points in system.
CONNECTING RODS I beam section duralumin drop forgings. The big ends have gun
metal bearings lined with white metal. The small ends are bushed with duralumin tube
