GENERAL SUGGESTIONS
SECTION – Ensure absolute cleanliness of all utensils.
551 – Provide separate utensils for different kinds of lubricant
– Wipe around lubricators after filling, as exuding grease collects dust.
– Proceed through the regular routine and do not neglect any part.
– Clean all lubricators before lubricating.
SUMMARY OF CHASSIS LUBRICATION
SECTION Daily or after 200 miles
552 – Check level of oil in engine and replenish if necessary ( Section 457 )
Each 500 miles
– Apply grease gun to nipples on the following:—
No. of Nipples
Steering pivots 4 ( 2 on each )
Spring shackles 12 ( 3 on each spring )
Clutch shaft 2
Footbrake pedal 1
Handbrake lever shaft ( after R 3060 ) 1
Fan bearing 1
Starting Handle shaft ( before R 3061 ) 1
– Turn fan impeller screw cap greaser one half turn.
– Turn distributor greaser one complete turn.
– Oil all engine control joints.
After first 500 miles
– Drain and refill engine with fresh oil.
– Engine requires 17 pints ( 97 litres ) to bring level to full
mark on dipper rod.
Each 1,000 miles
– Check gearbox oil level and replenish if necessary.
Each 2,000 miles
– Change engine oil.
– Add oil to steering box.
– Check rear axle oil level and replenish if necessary.
– Oil dynamo and starter ( two or three drops are ample ).
– Oil felt pad insert beneath distributor rotor.
– Smear a little grease on distributor contact breaker cam.
Each 4,000 miles
– Check oil filter for flow ( Section 462 ).
– Grease steering joints.
Each 5,000 miles
– Charge spring gaiters with oil.
– Grease front hubs.
– Disconnect speedometer cable and grease inner cable.
Each 10,000 miles
– Drain and refill gearbox with fresh oil.
– Drain and refill rear axle with fresh oil.
NOTE: — To make up oil level or refill rear axle, use grease gun with nozzle
removed. Use light or medium grade gear oil — not grease.
Do not use paraffin to flush out the Engine, Gearbox or Rear Axle.
