VAUXHALL 20-60 SHOP MANUAL
If the bulb now lights the coil is defective and should be replaced. If it does
not light the fault is in the wiring or battery itself. In such cases a common
source of trouble is the battery earthing lead.
Engine Misfires: — Possible causes.—Loose connections or dirty contacts
should be looked for first.
( a ) The gap at the plug points should be -025’ to -030’. Too small or too
large a gap will cause misfiring.
( b ) The insulation of the high tension leads may be perished or chafed
through, replace if necessary; see that the leads are not nipped by
the sparking plug cover plates.
( c ) Contact breaker points opening too wide ( Section 527 ).
( d ) Points in bad condition ( Section 526 ).

LUBRICANTS AND CHASSIS
LUBRICATION
LUBRICANTS
SECTION Only well known brands of lubricants in appropriate grades are
550 recommended, and in temperate climates there is no necessity to
distinguish between summer and winter conditions.
Vauxhall design is such that the engine and chassis will function
satisfactorily with any good quality oil on the market, and we feel that
there are so many good lubricants offered to the public that it would
be invidious for us to select any individual makes.
