VAUXHALL 20-60 SHOP MANUAL

                                       TO REPLACE

SECTION Replace each pair of bearings as examined, reversing operations given for
                         450 removal ( Section 448 ).

                                       FLYWHEEL — TO REMOVE

                       SECTION – Remove clutch ( Section 303 or 304 ) .
451 – Remove the four nuts holding the lower portion of the flywheel housing

in position and remove this part of the housing. Remove the split pins
and castellated nuts from the six bolts holding the flywheel to the
crankshaft. Tap the bolts back as far as possible. It may be found that
                                                                                                    1
three of the bolts cannot be tapped back more than about / 4 ”; this will
be due to the heads fouling three studs carrying a retaining plate at the
rear of the crankcase. Turn the crankshaft through a few degrees and
the bolts will then clear the studs, allowing them to be tapped back until
the ends are about flush with the face of the flywheel. Pull the flywheel
forwards off the bolts—turn sideways as far as possible and lower it
sufficiently for the starter teeth to clear the flange on the housing. The
                                          flywheel can then be withdrawn.

                                       INSPECTION

SECTION – Examine starter teeth and remove any burrs. If the teeth are badly worn,
452 a new flywheel should be fitted.

                                       – Examine clutch face of flywheel. This should be free from scores.

                                       – Examine clutch components in accordance with details given in
                                          ( Sections 305, or 306 ) .

                                       TO REPLACE

SECTION To replace flywheel, reverse operations given for removal ( Section 451 ).
453 It will be found that the six bolts can be forced through the holes in the
flywheel after this has been replaced by means of a long screw driver or
tommy bar inserted between the back of the crankcase and bolt head. The
bolts which cannot be reached from below the flywheel can be reached by
inserting the lever through the inspection hole situated in the nearside top
                                       of the flywheel housing.

                                       CRANKSHAFT — TO REMOVE

SECTION – Remove engine ( Section 400 ) and bolt to suitable turnover stand.
454 – Drain oil from engine.
                                       – Remove front engine cover ( Section 417 ).
                                       – Remove timing chain ( Section 421 ).
                                       – Remove engine sump.
                                       – Turn over engine.

                                                                                                       Page 97.
