Lodge of the Nine Muses 171

The following engrossment on vellum of a Resolution unanimously adopted
by the W.M., Wardens, Officers and Brethren was presented to W. Bro. Walter
            Webb P.M., P.G.D. ....
RESOLVED: That the Members of this Lodge receive with profound regret
the resignation of W. Bro. W EBB as Secretary, and desire to convey to him their
grateful appreciation of the able and distinguished manner in which, during a
period of nearly fifty years, he has carried out the onerous duties of the office.
They desire further to express their sincere hope that they may for many years to
come welcome his presence at their meetings as an Honorary Member of the Lodge.
               Twenty signatures were appended.
Bro. Webb was not well enough to attend the meeting, and the document
was conveyed to him by one of the Brethren present. 63
Bro. Walter Webb was W.M. in the Centenary year, 1877, and again in 1884,
and was Secretary from 1880 to 1922, with a break of two years, 1884 and 1885
            – forty years in all.
He was initiated in the Britannic Lodge, No. 33, in 1866, and joined the
Nine Muses in 1873. He died on 30 March 1938, at the age of ninety-five, and
was thus a member of the Lodge for sixty-five years. His interest in its affairs
was kept up to the last.
17 February 1936. The death of King George V on the 20th January was
reported, the Brethren standing in silence.
18 October 1937. A Subcommittee was appointed, consisting of the W.M.
and I.P.M. for the time being, the Treasurer and Secretary, and Bros. Myers
and Foxley, with power to co-opt other members, to consider the scope of a
proposed history of the Lodge and the cost of the same, and to report to the
Lodge. Bro. Captain Dawson reported that he had been going into the old
customs of the Lodge in conjunction with Bros. Webb and Luxmoore Marshall
with a view to collecting these for preservation in the future, and having a
leaflet printed for the benefit of the Brethren. A draft, still in MS., has been
utilised to some extent in this compilation.
