                         Choke Tube ( Annular type ) size 26 m.m.

                         INDUCTION MANIFOLD HEATING
                         ( Before R3061 )

                         ( See Figure 39 )

SECTION To ensure complete vaporization, and consequent minimum consumption
           580           of fuel, a certain amount of heat is applied to the induction manifold;
exhaust gases being utilized for this purpose.

Gases are taken from the exhaust manifolds, through two copper pipes
( ‘A’ and ‘B’ ) to a deflector chamber, a surging effect of the gases from
one pipe to another being obtained, and a quantity of heat imparted to the
deflector. Periodically the deflector chamber and pipes should be cleaned
otherwise they are liable to become choked.

Around the vertical pipe and some distance along the horizontal pipes of
the induction manifold, an exhaust jacket is provided, and into this exhaust
gases are introduced through two valves ( ‘C’ and ‘D’ ), which can be
adjusted to control the flow of exhaust gas, thereby regulating the amount
                         of heat ( Section 582 ).

                         INDUCTION MANIFOLD HEATING

                         ( After R 3060 )

SECTION On cars bearing chassis number R 3061 and onwards, heat is applied to the
581 vertical pipe of the induction manifold only.

The flow of exhaust gas allowed to pass into the exhaust jacket around the
vertical induction pipe is controlled by two valves ( ‘C’ and ‘D’, Fig. 39 ).
