58 Amo Amass A-Muse - Lodge of the Nine Muses
Outside Masonry, from the beginning of time, nine had always been the Mystic
number. Why did the Hydra have nine heads, the Cat have nine lives or in another
sense nine tails? To exorcise ghosts, the Romans threw nine black beans over their
heads. In Folk Law, if one wanted to see Fairies, one put nine grains of wheat on a
four leafed clover. Now, we talk of Nine days wonder, nine points of the law and one
is dressed `up to the nines’. Finally in an emergency we dial 999.
