The essentials
PKD
PKD (Partly Knocked Down) is the vehicle structure complete with powertrain;
in other words, a motorised chassis with the complete structural framework of
the vehicle. The job of the bodybuilder is to fit out the vehicle with windows,
doors, body panels, seats and interior trim. An example of PKD is the low floor
Citelis urban bus, which is supplied in this form.
Chassis
The chassis is the load-bearing structure upon which a bus or a coach is built.
Complete with the driveline and engine, the chassis is used by the bodybuilder
to produce a “custom-built” transport vehicle. This chassis benefits from Irisbus
Iveco’s vast experience as a manufacturer of intensive-use vehicles and engines,
for reliable and safe passenger transport.
Bogie
The bogie is a version of the chassis where the side members have been
deliberately shortened between the front and rear axles. This makes
transporting the chassis easier, and also allows the bodybuilder to choose the
wheelbase length.
CKD
CKD (Completely Knocked Down) involves the complete disassembly of the
chassis so that it may be packed into a shipping container, the destination being
generally long distance export.
