until the engine is actually being withdrawn from chassis, also, when
replacing the engine, assemble exhaust pipe to manifold before the engine

the clutch pedal return spring from bracket on gearbox and remove pedal
complete from clutch shaft. Disconnect the transmission brake rod from
the actuating lever on the cross shaft by withdrawing the connecting pin.
– Remove the three bolts which hold the propeller shaft rear fabric joint
coupling to the spider, so that as the engine is lifted out of the chassis, the
propeller shaft can be withdrawn from the splined spider at the rear of the
gearbox.
– Remove top of gearbox complete with change speed lever, and cover the
gearbox to prevent anything falling into the box.
– Disconnect speedometer cable from drive on side of gearbox. Remove

bolt holding each rear engine support to the frame brackets. The engine
and gearbox units are now entirely disconnected from the chassis and
by suitable overhead hoist, raise engine and gearbox units so that the
assembly is inclined at approximately 30° and gently push back the chassis.
As the chassis is pushed back, remove the exhaust pipe and propeller shaft
as explained above.
– Remove the nuts from the studs and the bolts holding the gearbox to the
engine. The gearbox can then be removed and the engine left free for
