Champion moves into the
wiper blade market
In 1978 Champion took its first plunge away from the narrow
confines of being a one-product company by entering the wiper
market.
Upton becomes UK centre
for Champion
After the closure in 1982 of the Feltham factory, in 1986 Upton
eventually absorbed the sales and marketing and local
engineering functions as well as manufacturing. It was, by now,
a major player in the European spark plug scene. Ceramic
production, assembly production and the number of plug types
manufactured on site all increase.
Champion adds filters to its
product portfolio
The acquisition of a factory in Casarza, Italy, added filters to the
Champion product portfolio.
Cooper Industries takes
over Champion
The Champion Spark Plug Company is taken over by Cooper
Industries, based in Houston, Texas. During this same year,
Champion entered the ignition leads marketplace.
