Already involved in the automotive marketplace through Wagner
1993 (manufacturing brakes, head-lamps and miniature bulbs), Cooper
Industries became a major name in automotive manufacture
1994 when it acquired the Champion Spark Plug Company in 1989.
1997 This was further consolidated in 1992 when the company
acquired steering and suspension components giant, Moog
Automotive. A new division, Cooper Automotive, encompassing
all its automotive activities, was created.
Champion Europe announces
new structure
In recognition of its most important automotive market outside
America, Champion Europe, with its headquarters at Upton, was
formed in 1990 and, in 1993, it announced its new product-
based structure to make it more responsive to the product-specific
needs of its customers.
Cooper Industries focuses on
primary markets
In 1994, the company effectively divided its operations into two
companies: capital goods and general, value-added
manufactured products, which included automotive products and
Champion. Cooper Industries is the USA's sixth oldest,
continuously trading, industrial company.

Today, Cooper Automotive is a forceful and dynamic company
which continues to strengthen its position as a major force in
the world-wide, automotive marketplace.
