                It was proposed ... and carried unanimously that a Debt being due to
             Mefsrs Willis of the Thatched House Tavern, & several of the Brethren having
             advanced money to discharge the same, the several sums advanced shd
             be entered on the Minutes of the Lodge as follows

                The several above-mentioned sums were paid into the hands of the W.M. [Sir
             William Rawlins].
                On 11 November 1823, Bro. Turner, who had been Treasurer since 1818 in
             succession to Bro. Martin, resigned office; Sir William Rawlins was elected in
             his stead, and with characteristic energy set himself to deal with the financial
             situation, a kind of task in which he was thoroughly at home.
                On 11 May 1824,  Sir William
             laid before the Lodge a Statement of its accounts whereby it appeared that after
             having disbursed nearly the whole of the money placed in his hands there was still
             due to Mr Cuff [the lessee of the Freemason’s Tavern] for dinner bills the sum of
             £58-5-6 added to which there were no available funds to meet the 2 remaining
             meetings of the Season as well as other incidental expences Whereupon/ It was
             upon motion made by Bror Thornton seconded by PDGM Harper resolved that
             a subscription of £5 be made by each member of the Lodge in order to meet the
             exigency of the case ... and ....
                That the Secretary do write to the members not now present urging their
             concurrence in extricating the Lodge from its present embarafsments at the same
             time requesting that the same be forthwith paid into the hands of the Treasurer.
