ICKFORD The summer holidays flew by and this morning Pre-
Tug-of-War School staff watched the new Reception children skip
into school, with a tinge of sadness that they have
moved onto pastures new, but knowing that their
experiences in pre-school will have set them up with the
curiosity, social skills and resilience needed to make
fantastic progress throughout their formal schooling.
The setting is still buzzing with the sounds of our returning
pre-schoolers reacquainting themselves with what we
have to offer, as well as the voices of today’s new children:
Arthur and Sebbie. Later we will be joined by Lily, Ronnie,
Joseph, Rory, Emmet, Rodman, Jules and more children
who will be moving into the village in the coming months.
We look forward to getting to know them and their families.
This term we are focusing on ‘Ourselves’, covering
similarities and differences, likes and dislikes and
what makes us all unique. We will be focusing on
a couple of stories, songs and nursery rhymes
each week, beginning with the books ‘Only
One Me’ and ‘Happy in our Skin’. We have many
children who speak different languages at home
and have created dual-language story sacks
to support home/pre-school links, and we are
looking forward to expanding our knowledge of
other cultures and ways of life.
In June we had a lovely summer trip to Fairytale
Fragile Earth Exhibition Farm near Chipping Norton – it was a gloriously
sunny day, the farm was the perfect size for us to
at St Nicholas explore but not feel too rushed, and the children
were an absolute credit to their families. We fed
different breeds of pigs, petted small animals like
rabbits and guinea pigs and took goats for a walk!
We welcome visits to the Pre-School so you can
see what we do. If you would like your child to join
Pre-School, or have a look around, please contact
us. Check if you qualify for 30 hours funding on
the following website: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/.
We are also able to accept two year old funded
children.
Please do contact us if you would like to know
more. Don’t forget we are open from 7.45am for
Breakfast Club and 3.15pm-6pm for After School
Club too (ages 2-11 years). v
