Amo Amass A-Muse - Lodge of the Nine Muses 23
The same year, 1782, Lord Effingham was made a Privy Councillor, and he was
appointed Treasurer of the Household. In 1784 he was made Master of the Mint.
In 1787, he initiated H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and signed the Warrant for a special
Lodge of his own, The Prince of Wales Lodge (now No. 259).
He seemed to have become a sick man and in 1787 he went to sea in a Frigate, then
considered the best means of convalescence. In 1789, he resigned as Acting Grand Master
on appointment as the Governor General of Jamaica. He died there without issue in 1791,
age 45.
During his rule, he attended Grand Lodge eight times and the Committee of Charity
once. This is a good record for Grand Masters in those days.
