Then and Now
Ini ally the nuns served dinner at Cherwell
Edge. The new dining hall built for Linacre in
1976 used the St Catherine’s benches inherited
when the College moved into St Aldate’s.
These have been sold off to Old Members and
replaced by new chairs, named by generous

From the start of the award, the North
American Rhodes Scholars met in New York for
dinner before joining their liner for the journey
to England. Even now, they s ll meet before
flying together.

All rooms in the Griffiths Building are en-suite
and one offers full disabled access .
Exercise has changed since the days of tennis on the Cherwell Edge lawn. The ladies of last century
are prac cally standing above the site of the gym, as it is below the Abraham Building where its
equipment is used by many of the students.
